Many dogs are abandoned or abused and need a lot of attention to help restore their faith in people. Every animal has a unique personality and disposition. Because of this, every animal needs to be trained differently. This requires a unique trainer, with a wide range of experience and a wealth of knowledge. We evaluate each candidate, to maximize their strengths and correct undesirable behavior through extensive training programs. The end result is that many otherwise unplacable dogs can find a new home with a loving family.
Exceptional dogs, those with the ability to respond to commands or react to situations where a human is in need are matched with people that have special needs. This includes people with disabilities, perhaps wheel chair bound where a dog can pick up the owners keys, wallet or other misplaced items. These dogs can be trained to open doors, alert to dangerous situations or even detect a siezure up to 30 minutes prior to the impending event. It also includes people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as is often found with our Veterans returning from a war zone, or battered women.
The scope of 4 Paws For Life is intentionally wide because life presents all of us with so many variables and different situations. We aim for the best match of a 4 legged friend with the strongest human needs. This is based on the dogs intelligence and ability to understand its surroundings and the needs of the human.
